      VLO

      • Virtual Loudoun Online (VLO) offers courses through Schoology using content aligned to the Standards of Learning to provide new educational opportunities for students. Virtual Loudoun Online courses are full-year courses offered in a condensed term. Students should expect to dedicate 140 hours to complete a one-credit course within the term period. LCPS also uses other online vendors to offer courses.

VLO is only open to middle school students during our Summer Term 3 for select course options. High School students can register for an additional class to be taken virtually (an eighth credit earned during the academic year) and the coursework they are taking in their home school program. Students work at their own pace, utilizing the recommended assignment submission schedule, with the opportunity to connect with their teacher by appointment for support and assistance as needed. Please review the VLO FAQs webpage for additional details, including how many virtual classes LCPS students can take.

      VDL

      • Virtual Distance Learning (VDL) is a program that offers synchronous, daily instruction via Google Meet & Schoology.  Students enrolled in Virtual Distance Learning will take all of their classes online without attending a brick-and-mortar school in person.  Students enrolled in Virtual Distance Learning commit to distance learning for the entire school year.

VDL is a full-time, synchronous, secondary, virtual school program. Students log into their online classes daily via a regular bell schedule, engaging in live instruction with cameras on, utilizing their microphones, and participating in the live class chat and activities. Please review the VDL FAQs webpage for additional details, including course availability.

      VDE

      • The Virtual Distance Elementary (VDE) program offers synchronous, daily instruction. Students enrolled in Virtual Distance Elementary will take all of their classes virtually, without attending a brick-and-mortar school in person.

          • Courses are delivered using the Schoology learning management system, and students will collectively log in to class via Google Meet.

          • Students are actively engaged in classwork, homework, and other assignments.

          • Students who enroll in Virtual Distance Elementary make a one-year commitment to receiving all of their schooling in this format.
